Speak essay

Imagine going to school on your first day of high school being the outcast not having any friend, being alone in the school like you are a wounded zebra . In the book, Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson. Having what she has gone through it very hard for a girl who just came into hight school os very hard for melinda. If only everyone knew the effects of being ignored and abused, people would have treated Melinda nicer.
Many people judged Melind for calling the cops No one knew how many secrets Melinda was keeping, or the pain she felt. Everyone thought they could label her. “I knew you were trouble the first time I saw you,”(Anderson 9). Her teacher keeps his label on her for the entire year, like everyone else. They were wrong. Sometimes people can act blind. If someone seems sad, there obviously is a big reason. People just passed her by, treating her like she wanted pity. Little did they know all she needed was someone to talk to about her feelings.
Depression isn’t something you can forget about. Its major, and should be noticed. Melinda was depressed, but had no one to talk to about it. She became depressed, and didn’ t want to socialize as much as she used to. It’s already depressing as it is, and it’s sad to know she had no one to have her back. “You are the most depressed person I’ve ever met. And, excuse me for saying this but you are no fun to be around and I think you need professional help”(105). No one believed her, and having that made everything worse. If only her best friend had trusted her, maybe she could have turned out okay. Melinda had to believe in herself, as hard as it was, to realize she has to speak to someone.
Taking small steps on her way to recovery, Melinda did it all on her own. She improved her life, piece by piece. Eventually she gained confidence and spread the truth. It’s the good actions she made, that brought her to the light. As real as the quote is, the truth will set you free. If only she could have done it right away. “I should probably just tell someone. Get it over with. Let it all out”(99). Melinda was very close to telling someone earlier than she did. Because she thought about it long enough, she talked herself out of speaking. Although she did speak out, she is teaching other victims that talking is the only way back to happiness. Melinda is now noticed, and people feel bad for the way they treated her. All the tragic things that happened to Melinda, had an impact of her speaking out.
People would’ve treated Melinda better, if only they knew the effects it had on her. It all ended good in the end, which was the best thing. Everything that happened to her, she learned not to make the same mistakes she did. She is becoming a better and greater person, because she let the truth out. Now Melinda has a happier life, and she knows she can’t change her past. She had to face her fears and keep her head held high.

Speak is about a girl named Melinda Sordino that is an outcast and loner because, she called the cops at the end of the summer party in 8th grade. When Melinda is at her first day of high school her friends from 1st grade no longer talk to her. Melinda doesn't fit in any group because of the incident at the party she feels like a wounded zebra in the pack. Melinda meets a girl named Heather she is a very preppy girl who cares about being involved, it reminds her of herself when she was in 8th grade. At the party something happened to her and the secret that she hides is why she called the cops at the party.
